Teigernfaces: Using Linear Algebra Techniques to Solve the Problem of Tiger Facial Recognition

Diana Rikjs

Facial recognition techniques are useful in a variety of fields. We can apply some of these techniques to the problem of distinguishing the faces of individual tigers based on their various facial characteristics and the stripe patterns that are unique to each individual tiger. In particular, we look at the Eigenface, a specific type of eigenvector that is used in the problem of facial recognition programs and that is capable of finding distinguishing characteristics of human faces, and how this can be applied to facial recognition for tigers.
