Join us on Tuesday, April 21 for a Western Happy Hour panel at 5 p.m. (via ZOOM videoconference: https://western.zoom.us/j/91350902497). A panel for Western students starting careers in the COVID-19 era.

The novel coronavirus has afflicted the American economy, making 2020 a daunting job market for Western Colorado University students preparing to launch their careers. Yet just over a decade ago, Western students also graduated into a brutal job market—when the Great Recession of 2008-10 slashed equity values by over 60% and brought double-digit unemployment for the first time in a generation.

How did Western graduates of that era adapt their tactics and mindset to the job-search challenges of the great recession? Networking, patience, soul-searching, Maker’s Mark, graduate school, a DIY spirit—all these may have come into play.

You’ll hear directly from Western alumni about how they dealt with job-hunt adversity amid economic disruption, and on how the experience altered and strengthened them in valuable ways.

Moderated by Craig Beebe, assistant director of career services at Western.
